What is the best medium to make stand up figures in (i.e. a horse) and can that be made well in advance? Also, what is the best thing to use Mexican paste for? Is it better to mix a bit of Tylose in with sugarpaste to make figures or just leave it as sugarpaste? Or……..sugar dough?! Help, having a meltdown, need to make lots of decorations quite a way ahead, such as pony heads, riding boots etc. Thank you!

hi,
the standard used for modelling figures is modelling paste also called 50/50

1 modelling paste = 50% flowerpaste (gumpaste) + 50% sugar paste or buy it or add cmc to sugarpaste.(have always struggled to get the consistency spot on dependant on weather and altitude, so I usually go for 50/50 .

2 mexican modelling paste (MMP) designed for detailed finer work as it does’nt tear as easily as flower paste and . Eg patchwork cutters , wedding flowers, frills etc.

3 sugar dough – sugar artist Maisie Parish’s brand retailed by Squires .modelling paste hard enough for modelling and soft enough to eat.

Hi Caramelruffles,

Many thanks for that. One last question, what would you use sugar dough for – I assume just for models that can be eaten? Thanks
