Fondant/satin ice

Hi all, I have been asked to make a wedding cake for a family member but I’m not sure on what the best covering will be any Ideas?
She wants a 4 tier chocolate cake. No marzipan.
What would be the best thing to cover the cake and also if I was to go with the 10kg of satin ice would that be enough to cover a 12″ 10″ 8″ & 6″ cake?
Thanks kellie 🙂

Hi Kellie

Satin ice can be rolled out thinner so here is their coverage chart http://satinice.com/product.php to use as guide. This is for regular sugar paste http://www.cakesecrets.co.uk/cake-decorating/decorating-cakes/amount-of-fondant-to-cover-a-cake/
If you use satin ice already you’ll know how it performs so hopefully the chart will help. I use satin ice all the time and find it a very good. It isn’t everyone’s choice, other members have discussed different pastes. Some like Sattina, see comments here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/sattina and if you put in the search box ‘which is the best fondant to use’ or ‘best icing to use’ there may be comments on other makes.
Chocolate cake doesn’t need marzipan, it can be covered and decorated in the way Paul shows us in the tutorials with ganache crumb coat and enrobed in sugarpaste. If you need more help or information please post again. That’s a big order, I appreciate you want to get it right.
