Hello Alanroberson4
You’ll find some recipes for sugar paste making http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/how-to-make-sugarpaste-from-scratch if you’d like to try making flower paste/gumpaste for models there is information here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/clarke-baxter
Both mediums should be store some where cool in heavy duty plastic bags and if possible place in an airtight container. If you put ‘storing fondant’ in the above search box there are several related answers.
Store bought fondants vary in price and quality so it’s worth buying small amounts now and then to sample their performance and suitabilty for your own needs. It has to be stored in exactly the same way as home made fondant. There are many opinions on the site on the different sugar pastes for example http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/sattina If you search ‘fondant’ you will see many related questions and answers which are relevant to you questions. And if you head over to http://www.cakeflix.com/free-online-cake-decorating-courses there is more than a wealth of information for total novices.
I know other members will contribute their knowledge so my little contribution is by no means all there is to know. To learn more you’ll find much information by googling ‘ Fondant review’ where you’ll learn from other sources about Satin ice, Fondarific, Carmass Mass and other leading makes.
Using key words like sugar paste, fondant, icing in the above search box will throw up more and more information and you can keep posting questions. Hope some of this helps.
