Freezing and defrosting cakes

Is it ok to wrap a cake in cling film to freeze it if you do not have a large enough fod bag? Do you remove the cake from the bag when defrosting?

Hi, Hopkinj3. From personal experience, yes you can freeze cakes wrapped in cling film but whether you use cling or a polythene bag, don’t unwrap it till its fully defrosted or it will dry out.

Hi hopkinj3

To prevent freezer burn when freezing cakes it’s best to wrap them in a couple of layers of parchement paper, foil and then cling film. Place the wrapped cake in a card board cake box and freeze. The box will also help prevent any accidental damage while in the freezer. To defrost, remove cake 12 -24 hours before needed depending on size of cake and defrost on the kitchen counter still in wrapping to keep the moisture in. That’s the way I do mine. Lots of information here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/freezing-cakes hope it all helps.
