Gardening Boots

Hi Alistair, what type of boots do you mean? I use wellingtons personally…either way it would mean carving the cake so it resembles the boot part and then stacking to make the ankle/leg part. Another idea would be to make a round or square cake and make the boots from fondant and decorate the top of the cake that way.

Hi Alistair

What you could is download some pictures of gardening boots and make a template of the sole as the starting point then build the cake up by stacking different size layers until you reach the right height. You’d have to do a certain amount of carving to get the shape of the ankle. The very top where the foot would go in can be carved into a dip to look like the opening of the boot and can be covered with teddy bear brown to appear like leather. Finishing touches like the boot tongue, lace eyelets and laces can either be added with royal icing or made with fondant and use the stitching tool for more detail. There are a few tutorials on sport shoes in google which might give you some guidance. Hope this helps.
