Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Gelatine for car windows??
Hi everyone. I have been asked by a local audi dealer to make an RS5 cake and they will put it on their website with a link to my website :)))) if it’s good enough obviously! I have heard about using gelatine sheets to make the windows and was hoping somebody has tried this and could give me some tips to do it? I will be using Paul’s FAB VW beetle course as reference for the cake. Thank you all

Hi nind81
If you search in youtube ‘apieceofcakeutah’, the demonstrator shows how to make gelatine sheets which could be used for window. The tutorial is for flowers but the technique of creating plain sheets which can be cut to window size might be helpful to you.
I’ve tried it with the pre-made gelatin sheets but had to abandon it as my windscreen was slightly curved and the sheet wouldn’t stay stuck to the sugarpaste!
Hi Doodlecake
The normal gelatine sheets are too thick and that’s why they’re brittle and don’t really bend and shape very well. The tutorial in the link shows how to thin the gelatine down to make flowers, it’s very fine and can be better manipulated. I haven’t tried it myself but have seen it done for flowers and fairy wings. x
i have worked with the gelatin and the gelatin sheet is very thin. also, i use piping get to stick my gelatin pieces to anything fondant or rolled buttercream. it takes a very little piping gel for it to stick, may have to hold corners little bit til it sticks. hope this helps.
