Gluten and dairy free

Has anyone made a gluten and dairy free chocolate cake? I can find recipes for one or the other but not both and need to make one in August as a wedding cake. I only need a 4″ and 6″ cake as the other tiers are dummies.

Hi Heather, you could try the dairy free recipe but use Dove’s Farm gluten free flour in it. You might need to increase whatever liquid is used in the recipe as gluten free flour usually makes a drier cake. Would love to know how you get on!

Hello Heathergrace

Wonder whether this will help http://www.lindyscakes.co.uk/2011/04/13/yummy-vegan-chocolate-cake-recipe/.
There are many other recipes online by searching for vegan chocolate cake recipes, here is another http://www.passionateaboutbaking.com/2011/04/bakingbarbaras-old-fashioned-chocolate-cake-with-balsamic-strawberry-cream-filling-eggless.html. This one uses cup measures for the cake and metric measures for the filling, bit wierd to do that so just making you aware of it. On both recipes choose a vegan filling of your choice. I haven’t used either recipe so can’t vouch for them. They look fairly straight forward, worth an experiment??

Try this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/6652/naughty-chocolate-fudge-cake but with gluten free flour, and a dairy free milk substitute. I use hazelnut milk you can buy on tesco, the nuttiness is nice in chocolate cake! I haven’t tried the gluten free flour in this recipe, but add a splash more milk and it should be fine. For the filling, dairy free spread works fine in place of butter, the only difference is that it is softer. Dairy free single cream also works well in ganache 🙂

I have a friend whose little boy is allergic to gluten, dairy, eggs, rapeseed oil, soya and corn. I am determined to make him a cake so I’m going to try Scooby’s eggless chocolate cake recipe with rice flour and sunflower oil this week. Will let you know how it turns out!

Thanks for your ideas. It doesn’t have to be eggless as they eat eggs, just no gluten or butter. I live in Canada so plenty of gluten free flours here of various sorts ( rice, coconut etc) and also milk substitutes. Doodlecake, I’d
love to know how yours turns out.
