Gramophone cake

Hi there. Wondering whether someone can help please. I have been asked to make a gramophone cake. The horn is the part that I am having trouble with working out how to do and then attaching it to the cake. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Hi gucci906

Not a tutorial but a sketch guide http://creativecrumbsnashville.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/grammy-cake.html
might give you an idea how the trumpet is placed. I think I would make it out of card and spray it. It could be made from gum paste, I think it would be quite heavy. You’d have to start with a lump of gumpaste rolled into a teardrop. Place a ball tool in the fat end and begin to hollow it out into the trumpet shape. At the same time elongate the narrow end and form into the required shape. I’m off to have a practice to see if it will make and also how to dry without losing the shape. If it works for me I’ll post again.

Edit

I’ve just realised that trumpet is made in two sections, so will try both methods.

Ok thanks. I was thinking of buying a plastic fog horn and covering it..but the card sounds much better and easier

Thanks

I’ve made a small one with gumpaste and as expected it is very heavy.
