Hi Annabel as far as I’m aware you have to dilute any sugar paste coloring with vodka or similar if your going to hand paint , it’s to ensure it dries quickly . There’s also a rejuvenator for this purpose you can buy online x

Hi Annabel

You can also use pure lemon extract (as seen the the beach hut tutorial) or lemon juice to paint with. I like to paint my design and leave it to dry then go over it to give more depth of colour or for shading. Neat colour can also be used to define detail. There are a number of tutorials in youtube which you might like to look at by searching ‘how to paint on fondant. Good quality brushes will give a better finish, they don’t necessarily cost a fortune, I buy the soft bristle ones which feel like blusher brushes Just some more ideas, hope they help. x

Annabel, it will help if you leave your cakes for about 12 hrs, if possible, before painting, as this gives the sugarpaste time to dry and form a skin, which will help with the painting.
