healthy sugar paste ??
I have been asked if it is possible to produce a birthday cake for a child,decorated ,but mum wants to explore healthy options ie low sugar and e/numbers.I would be grateful for any comments/advise

I guess you could do something like carrot cake sweetened with honey, which is probably as healthy as a cake can get! In terms of decorating, I would avoid all the fancier sugarpastes like satin ice, covapaste etc as they have lots of added ingredients which is what makes them easier to work with. I would stick to a supermarket own brand (morrisons is very good) and you could color it it with natural colourings, although you will only be able to make pastel colours. That’s a tough one. At the end of the day, it’s for a childs party. Sure all the E numbers and additives will be out of their system the following day and then they’ll all be back to normal, well behaved children.
