Hello, sounds mad but I struggle to cover dummy cakes smoothly. I’ve been advised to cover it first with royal icing, just water all sorts also to roll sugarpaste a bit thicker, some say don’t roll any thicker than you would for a normal cake but I can’t seem to get a nice finish can anyone help

It’s not easy to cover dummies as the sugarpaste dries out so quickly. If you put ‘dummy’ in the search box you will find various hints and tips in the answers that come up. I describe the best way I’ve found in ‘covering square dummies’. Hope that helps!

Hi Ctennant

If you cover with marzipan first allow it to dry for a couple of days before covering your dummy. The dry marizpan will cover any imperfections on the dummy and you’ll have a nice smooth base for the icing.

I had this problem, i now cover mine with ganache first then ice as usual. This solves the problem
