Help!!! Damaged sugarpaste on a wedding cake for this Friday!

I put my top tier covered cake into its box to keep it safe having left it drying for a couple of days and have just taken it out 2 weeks later to find the box and paper have dented the now dry sugarpaste!

Can anyone advise what is best to do please? It is a fruit cake covered in marzipan and sugarpaste. I have tried to flatten it down but that won’t work! The damage is in several places so I can’t put it at the back and the cake has to be delivered on Thursday.
Should I try to take the paste off and re-cover or will that pull off the marzipan? Nightmare! Thank you in advance xxx

Hi mrsymo

If the damage is not salvageable the best thing to do is take off the icing and start again. I suspect the marzipan will come off so have some at the ready just in case you need it. Take the icing off by gently scoring it in sections, you might find it will peel off and leave the marzipan in tact. Roll the marzipan slightly thinner and let it dry for a few hours before icing. I think time wise this would be the best solution although not the perfect one. At least you have a few days to get the cake as dry as you can. If you’ve got a fan have it running by the cake once re-done, this will help with the drying. I place cakes in boxes one inch bigger to allow for the icing and decorations, do you think perhaps you had a bit of a tight fit?
Hope all goes well. x
