How to build a stairs cake?

Hi Guys!
I have this client that required a cake with stairs on it.
It is a cake with two layers, but the second layer is a stair in one side of the cake with bride and groom on the top of it.
My question is:
How can I build this cake avoiding it to colapse?
I think that the most difficult part of this tast is to support the stairs.
Thank you!!

Thank you!

Hello beckangela

There are several tutorials online but no pictures (HA! annoying) this is the best I have found so far http://cakecentral.com/t/400083/how-the-heck-do-i-make-stairs scroll down until you see a picture tutorial. Wilton make plastic stairs which you’ll find in ebay. Here’s another tutorial by Wilton http://www.wilton.com/technique/Fondant-Staircase-and-Carpet which I can’t get my head round! If I see anything else I’ll post but I’m sure other members will help out. x

Castle steps in this tutorial http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_5361521_make-castle-cakes.html which could be adapted for a wedding cake.

If you google Debbie Brown Cinderella cake you will see an image of her cake which has stairs. I think it’s from her book enchanting magical cakes which is well worth buying for for how to carve and stack all kinds of shapes but my local library also stocks her books, which is very handy!
