How to make smooth models
whenever I try to make models from sugar paste they always end up with cracks in and aren’t smooth. I do add trex and need well but never seem to get them looking professional. Wondered what I’m doing wrong?

Hello Tomandhen123
I know exactly what you mean, the same thing used to happen to me too. I find over handling the paste during modelling can cause it to lose too much moisture. If you notice the paste when it’s been handled too much, it becomes less elastic and cracks appear. Try making each element of the model as quickly as you can and assemble with a good edible glue so pieces stay stuck. I’ve watched Paul over and over again, he just makes and steps away from the model and it looks perfect!
I get the feeling from your description that your paste is sort of heavy and crumbly?? That’s how mine becomes if I use too much trex to soften it. No matter how much I knead, it doesn’t come together. Have a go at making the models from paste which doesn’t have too much trex. Fresh paste should feel firm but pliable, easily moulded and hold it’s shape.
