Ingredients chart

The chart looks good but I have no idea how to gauge ingredients for 0.8 and 0.7 cakes – can anybody help?
Apologies now if it is something really easy.

I keep being transferred to where question has been already answered but on looking it hasn’t.

Hi gina

Please can you say the size of the cakes you want to bake and the size of the cake for the recipe you are using.
I’m a little confused with the 0.8 and 0.7 figures which you’ve given, are these the factors taken from the chart? Are the cakes round or square? Please let me know so that I can help. x

Hi madeitwithlove, I’m sorry I can’t find the chart link now but the original cakes were two 8″and two 7″rounds and I want to downscale to two 7″and two 6 “rounds.
But I just don’t understand the maths. (blushing)

Hi gina

First of all here is the chart link: http://www.cakeflix.com/how-to-work-out-what-size-cake-tin-to-use

In order to scale down the total ingredients you need to reduce all of it by 20%. If you are still having problems with the math just give me the recipe and I’ll convert it for you. You do have the option of using the cake o meter which is on the same blog. How are you going to divide the batter? Are you going make the batter all in one for the 4 cakes or are you going to do each size individually?
Let me know if you would like more help with this. x

Thanks for link madeitwithlove….
I used the cake ready reckoner and the target cake sizes I need are 0.8 for the 7inch and 0.7 for the 6inch.

Oh I see, I have to reduce each of my ingredients by 0.8 and again by 0.7 – but I don’t know what these numbers represent.

Thanks for your offer of help madeitwithlove, it would be much appreciated and I’ll get back to you tomorrow if I may. X

The numbers represent the factor by which you multiply the ingredients in order to get the new quantities. Here is the information which shows how to use those numbers:

How to use this chart :

1/ Find the size of tin used in the recipe from the left hand column.
2/ Look along the top row to find the tin size of the cake you wish to bake.
3/ Where the row and column meet is a number.
4/ Multiply each of your ingredients by this number to get the quantity of ingredient you need. When using a calculator don’t forget to put the decimal point in the right place.

Please do come back tomorrow, happy to help more if you require it. x

Yes, sorry madeitwithlove, I know the numbers represent the factor by which I need to alter to get new quantities. Now it says multply….maybe this is where I am going wrong.
Can you just tell me for instance what would be 250gms of an ingredient multiplied by 0.7?
If it’s the same as what I have then I’ll be okay 🙂 x

If you have 250g of an ingredient and want to reduce it by a factor of 0.7 multifply 250 x 0.7 which will give 175g

YES!!!!!!!
Thank you madeitwithlove….I’d been trying to decrease rather than multiply. My thinking being I needed less ingredients.

Thank you so much for your patience XX
