Is it necessary to dowel a chocolate biscuit cake.

I am making my first wedding cake for a family member. The bottom tier is a 12″ chocolate biscuit cake, next is a 10″ dummy , next 8″ vanilla sponge and the top tier is a 6″ carrot cake.
My question is do I need to dowel the bottom tier which is the chocolate biscuit cake and if so would I need to use as many dowels as I would use if the cake was a sponge cake. Thanks

Hi peewee123

If I was making this, I would dowel for peace of mind. There is just that possibility that the biscuit cake could crack under the weight of the upper tiers. If in doubt, dowel! It’s better to be safe than sorry. 🙂
