Hi Michelle, can you let us all know what you’re baking. If you have an existing recipe which you want to follow, I’m sure one of us will be able to scale it up or down for you. You can also google in cakeometre, it’s a calculator which enables you scale your recipes up or down according the size tin you have. Hope this helps.

Hi I want to have ago at the teddy bear cake but cant find a recipe for toffee sponge so will probably do paul’s chocolate one or maybe try Jane Hornby’s one. Paul uses a deep 8×10  tin. will have a look at cakeometre

thanks

Good luck with teddy, you might find Jane’s recipe a bit firmer than Paul’s. Jane’s recipe might not be suitable if you’re baking for a child because of the high caco content of the chocolate. Both cakes are super. Pleased to have been of help. x

ps I’m working on a toffee recipe and hope to share the out come with every one. I’ve scoured the internet for a recipe without success. Lots of sticky toffee puddings though!!!

I love Paul’s chocolate cake its the nicest choc cake i’ve ever had but I am worried about it sinking that’s why I was contemplating Jane’s. I’m making it for my 40th birthday so not too many kids (hopefully). If I do Paul’s how long do you think I should bake it for?  Good luck with your toffee recipe I really hope you’re successful

Hi Michelle

I baked Paul’s cake for exactly 2 hours in an 8″ tin at 130c fan. The cake does have a tendency to sink and as you’ll have seen from the various queries on Q&A not every one has experienced sinking. Mine sank very slightly, it produced a sugary crust but I think that’s due to the high content of sugar. I’ve baked Jane’s cake heaps of times and I get perfect results each time. Paul’s cake is a must to bake but do it when it isn’t for such a special occassion. Experiment with the timing, it’s the only way for certain cakes to get well acquainted with your oven. My oven is about 8 years old and from the first, has taken an immense dislike to me. We fight constantly, but it does meet me half way by producing something resembling a cake. I would love to do Paul’s wonky cake, oven does it for me!!!! Lol, all I have to do is decorate. Have a very happy 40th, and I hope your cake turns out great. ps watch the tutorial for Paul’s timing x.
