Model on buttercream

Hi, I’m making a buttercream covered cake with a model shoe on top like in Paul’s Jimmy Choo tutorial. I’m worrying – will the shoe sink into the buttercream and, apart from using a firm consistency, is there anything I can do to support it? Of course, I will make sure the buttercream crusts. Also, will the fat in the buttercream seep through and stain the modelling paste of the shoe? Grateful for any thoughts!

Hi Leapyleo

Peep here for an answer:🙂

My stiletto shoe is sinking into my cake

Rectangular cake cards are very inexpensive, you’ll be able to get one from a local supermarket in the homebake aisle or bakery. It’s just not worth trying to buy one online. As your cake is buttercream, the card can be covered with the same buttercream with added melted white chocolate to help it harden. Dowel the cake so the card is supported to take the weight of the shoe.

I hope this helps. 🙂

Ps, stick the shoe to the card with melted chocolate or a little royal icing.
