Modelling paste, which brand is best for a beginner?!

Hi
As a beginner I’m going to focus on modelling for now. I’ve only ever tried Renshaw before but, knowing there is so much more out there, I’m wondering which brand would be best to use? I don’t want to have to colour it at this stage, so need a good variety of colours available, and don’t want it to cost a fortune while I’m learning. Any suggestions? Thank you ?

Hi Kla100

Saracino modelling paste has a really great reputation. It comes in an array of colours and is reasonably priced. As a beginner, you might be better off buying something you can work with without problems. I use the white and colour it myself as I don’t do that much now so it suits. It is difficult to make other recommendations since there are so many brands on the market now.

Some cake decorating suppliers offer a trial pack. If you email or phone a few of them, you may be able to get some samples.

Hope this helps. 🙂

A quick follow up question please if that’s ok? I’ve never coloured sugarpaste, and wondered what product you use to colour yours? Thank you ?

I use Rainbow Dust Progel. It is a very concentrated gel so a little goes a long way. I believe Paul also uses ProGel colours, sometimes in combination with other brands. Some information for you on the product here:

Hope this helps. If you need more information please post back. 🙂
