Mrs Jones’ fruit cake

The top of my fruit cake is crusting. I have covered the top with butter paper. How can I salvage the crusting?

The top of my fruit cake is crusting. I have covered the top with butter paper. How can I salvage the crusting?

Once the cake is baked and completely cooled wrap it up in parchment paper and foil, the crust will soften after two or three days. Place the cake crust side down in a cake box or a tin, and not in a plastic airtight container which may make it sweat and spoil.
