I have to make some wedding cakes which they want to use as name settings. Because of this I only have a 2″ square cake to try and get a name on each cake. Can anyone suggest how to do this? My piping skills are not brilliant and would prefer to stamp out letters, but can’t find anything small enough.
Any help would be appreciated.

How many cakes do you have to do? If each guest is to receive a cake with their name on, the easiest and less stressful way would be the edible prints as suggested by goldengoose. If you want to cut names out you could use mini metal alphabet cutters. These can be purchased online in many cake decorating stores, ebay, amazon and hobbycraft in the card crafting section.

I would make small plaques or ribbons from sugarpaste, let them dry overnight and then write the name on with an edible pen!

Have you thought about edible print? I recommend www.eatyourphoto.co.uk – they offer precut smaller sizes or may even cut a large sheet into the size you want.

Depending on the design of the cake, how about painting on the name? With a very fine brush this is not difficult.

A hand written plaque is such a lovely quick idea which also adds a thoughtful personal touch. I often do that but my writing is appalling! I envy people who can write or even print well, makes life so much easier. Thank you for adding your suggestion! x

Hi madeitwithlove, I wish I could do fancy writing with lots of flourish but instead I just keep it simple and write like a primary school teacher! Looks good enough that it saves me making up royal icing just to write a name though x
