Hello,
I am hoping to start up my own cake decorating business from home and have no idea as to start up costs.
I am aware I will need personal indemnity insurance and a visit from my local council, but is anyone able to offer advice as to what companies to use and any costs incurred?
The paperwork side doesn’t scare me as I am a bookkeeper.

Welcome aboard. If you are happy with the numbers side of things then in terms of setting up and running a profitable cake decorating business you are half way there.

You are right to ensure that you have public liability insurance to get started. Direct Line seem to be the best company for cake decorators to get an insurance policy set up with, but if your turnover is below £7.5k then you can use the BSG.

Contact your local council and ask for advice from the EHO who will guide you through every step of the process. They are there to help and certainly not to be feared.
