Number toppers

Hi. I want to make a number 4 cake topper and had a problem a few weeks ago with the number breaking. I used saracino and made it 5 days in advance. I decided to put a stick into the number 5 when placing it on the cake and it broke, so I’m not sure if I had put it in the number when making it, it might not have broke. So basically, looking for advice on doing a number topper, so it won’t break. Thanks. X

Hi maisy

I always cut out two of the same number and sandwich a skewer between them. Stick together with a tiny bit of water or edible glue. Take a peek on YouTube by searching ‘how to make a gumpaste number topper’. You can also see ways of making the number ‘pop’ by either layering with different colour pastes or framing the number with another block colour. Hope this makes sense. ?
If you’re short on time, add a little tylose to your medium to harden it off.
