Old cake recipe but no cake tin size

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me please. I have an old recipe that I would like to use, but it does not tell me what cake tin size I need. Would anybody be able to help me work out what tin size is required and time needed in the oven, as my nan use to make this and it is very yummy.

Here is the recipe:

12 oz Marg
1lb 2 oz Sugar
1lb 2oz plain flour
3 tsp baking powder
6 eggs
12 tbsp milk
4 tsp vanilla

Hi poppywats, that seems like a pretty big cake to me…..I haven’t come across anything before with that ratio of ingredients, but comparing with recipes I do know I would think it would make a fairly deep 10″ cake maybe? Or a not quite so deep 12 inch? (round cakes), but really I’m just estimating myself! Cooking time would depend on whether you intend to cook in one tin or split the batter between two. I would guess at around maybe 40 minutes for two tins and at least an hour for one tin. You would need to check ‘doneness’ in the usual ways, and keep checking every 5-10 minutes until you were happy with them. I don’t know if that’s any help at all, if it were me I’d just give it a try and see what happens!

Hi Poppywats looking at my books, I would say between an 8″ or 9″ tin depending if the tin is round or shaped! Hope this will be of some help!
