Overheated chocolate mix for cake

Can anyone advise on whether I can still use the choc/butter/coffee mixture I overheated on the hob? I am making Pauls moist choc cake and I had left it on the hob over a low heat to melt the ingredients together only to forget it and when I realised, it was bubbling around the edge of the pan and I had to stir it well for it to smooth out, but now its cooled it seems to have separated into butter fat and chocolate. It doesn’t smell burnt so am wondering if it’s still useable.
Many thanks

I would try and use it if I were you as all the expensive ingredients are in there and you only need to add the sugar, buttermilk, flour and eggs. If it doesn’t smell burnt then it should be ok. Let us know how you get on as it may happen to us sometime. Good luck

Thanks Gracecay, I think I will use it as, having had to leave it to go out, the mixture is now cold and has thickened up. It tastes fine, I will need to warm it again to soften it before adding the other ingredients but I shall give it a go and report back on how the cake turns out.
Many thanks 🙂
