Painting shells

Can you paint swiss meringue buttercream shells? If so would colored dust with vodka work?

Gave it a try and of course the butter made it waterproof so it did not soak in.

I tried dusting first without vodka and it made a very light but even coating. But it also got everywhere. Even using a fine paintbrush.

Mixing vodka and dust worked well as long as there was enough dust in the mix. Not enough didnt give even coverage so finding the right mix was crucial.

Also found that the buttercream had to be frozen or the shape of the shells were lost.

Hello acesdoll

It might be better to dust them with petal dust rather thean paint them. It’s possible the meringue could absorb the mositure from the vodka and become soft. How about making a few extra ones and experimenting? You’ll know then what works and what doesn’t. If you do try, your feed back would be great! 🙂
