Please Help! tiers and dowels

I am making a 3 tiered 21st cake for my friends birthday and was wondering do I need a centre dowel through all 3 layers??? ( I have never used one before but have only made 2 tier cakes in the past) OR is it okay to just dowel the 2 bottom layers as normal with cake boards underneath each layer and then stick them together with ganache??

There no need to put a dowell through all 3 tiers. I have made a 3 tier wedding cake and only dowelled the bottom 2 layers with cake cards

hi I don’t center dowel my tiers either and they have always been okay. by center doweling it lessens the chance of any of the tiers moving- it depends on the type of tiered cake and how long it has to travel x

Thanks heaps for the advice, it is Paul’s chocolate cake and it only has to travel half an hour if that makes a difference. Thankyou both xx
