Poinsettia Cutter and veiners

Hi, I live in Western Australia and we are limited to cutters and veiners as fresh flowers on wedding cakes is the way people like to go so the cake decorating shops here don’t stock much in the way of cutters and veiners. I am after a good poinsettia cutter and veiner like the ones used in the tutorial on Cakeflix. Appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks, Wendy

Hi Wendy

In the Cakeflix tutorial by Tutor Aarti, the cutter and veiners set that she is using is listed in the tools tab under the tutorial. Scroll down and see it here:

However, I have done a quick Google search for cake-decorating tools in Australia. The search threw up many suppliers which, although may not be all in WA, will supply by post. Other options that may be useful are Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, and Ali Express.

Alternatively, you could make your own cutters and veiners by simply cutting around the shapes of the bracts from a template. I made my own cutter in cardboard by using a real bract to follow the shape and used a veining tool to mark the veins. It helps to laminate the cutout shape to keep it clean.
If you Google poinsettia template, you’ll see lots of different ideas which may be useful. I’m sure there are more ideas on Pinterest.

Place freshly cut bracts on formers to give them a natural shape and leave them to dry before dusting with colour. For colouring the cutout bracts, I used edible dust. It’s best to layer the colours using small amounts of the colour, shading where required to achieve a more realistic look. I didn’t wire my poinsettia but you can do it once the bracts are freshly cut, and use the Cakeflix tutorial as your guide.

Hope suggestions help. 🙂
