Reading in other forums, it appears that hairspray works well. You could also try PME clear glaze, which is what I do. I’ve got some old dummies (4 yrs old) which still look ok ish with the PME. If you’ve got loads to do, this is a very expensive option!
Hopefully other members will chime in with recommendations.
I don’t coat mine with anything but they’re not permanently on display. In between wedding fairs they live in the heavy duty cakes boxes – no ornaments in my lounge, only cake boxes 🙂 but each season they’re soaked off and re-done with new designs. I would have thought that most would be okay as long as they’re not in direct sunlight/strong colours that can fade.
