Putting cake boards between tall cakes.

Hello,
I usually make a cake with 4 x 1″ layers and with the filling it makes it about 6″ tall. Would all you lovely cakey people out there normaly put a cake board in the middle of a cake this tall ?….it just seems an awefully big slice to serve up .
Any advice gratefully received!

Hi lynn-fraser

I make four layers like you and put a separating board in the middle. It makes it easier for cutting and calculating portions. Some people do like to see tall slices but they are still cut up when served. I just think it makes more sense to have the middle board. I’m sure other members will comment how they do their tall cakes. Hope my ha’penny’s worth helps. x

Thank you so much for this your answers always help. Would you put fondant on first then the board on top or just put the board directly onto the ganache? x

I put the first cake together, dowel, put the card in the middle and stack the next cake. Ganache them together to make one tall cake. Let the ganache set and then ice as usual.

Should have linked you to Paul’s tutorial stacking double barrel cake. It’s the the same principle.
