Rejuvenating Spirit

Hi
can anybody please tell me how much rejuvenating liquid I’d need to add to lustre dust to airbrush a 4 tier cake. All the tiers will be approximately 4-5inchs deep.

Many thanks x

Hi bellscakes

Rejuvenating spirit comes in very small dropper bottles and is pretty expensive. You’d need a heck of a lot of little bottles to do a four tier cake. You have other options:
a. Buy isopropyl alcohol BP quality from the chemist
b. Buy the ready mixed airbrush colours from Rainbow dust which are widely available in cake decorating stores and online. They come in metallic colours.
c. Other airbrush colours like Dinkydoodle are also available in metallics

If you go for the chemist option speak to the pharmacist to make sure what they are selling is food grade. You may have to explain what you’ll be using it on.
In her tutorial Fay Cahill does say it can be purchased in chemists, double check to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps.

Hi Maditwithlove

Thanks very much that’s a few ideaas to be going on with. But in the meantime if I diluted the edible rainbow dust with the isopropyl alcohol, it would then be ok for using in my airbrush? I’d just like to test it out before spending lots of money on different airbrush paint mixes.

Many thanks. x

hi you can buy bigger bottle of the Rejuvenator spirit from Cake Stuff.

Cake Stuff Rejuvenator Spirit / Fluid colouring thinner 275ml

It would work out cheaper that the small bottles.

Rainbow dust make their own diluting fluid so not sure whether iso would work. Have a look at their site information here http://www.rainbowdust.co.uk/t/our-products
If you’re using their liquid paint which is water based the iso wouldn’t work. The link has information on how to use the paint through an airbrush on a water dampend cake and also how to use the dust.
Faye Cahill, in her tutorial, mixed lustre with the iso to make liquid paint which she said is used by some people to run through airbrushes. I mix rainbow dust lustres with the iso when I’m brush painting but haven’t put it through my Dindkydoodle.
Rainbow Dust as seen in the link will sell only to trade. All their products are available online from distributors like The Cake decorating company, Cake Craft. The Craft shop and many others.
Just try a little and see how it goes. Your feedback would be really useful. x

Just to add that if you have a dinky doodle airbrush it invalidates the warranty if you use lustre dust in it according to the little book that came with mine x

Yes, I think that is standard with all of them during the first year. I can appreciate that they would want us to use their own products. Thanks for pointing it out Yvonne x
