Removing fondant from cake disaster

Hello
My cake has sunk so I need to either remove the sugar paste and try and fix it or start again. Please could you advise the best method for removing the sugar paste or is it just easier to bake new cakes and start again? Thanks so much

Hi jacquiewatson

Oh what a nightmare for you! ?

If the cake is for a client or as a gift, it would be better to start over again. It would be more professional. Lifting icing off a cake isn’t the easiest of things to do.

If the cake is for you and you just want to have a practice, it is possible to remove the icing by slicing it in sections to lift it off gently with a knife. Sometimes it will lift off easily but on the whole, you’ll always get sections which will tear the cake.

Your cake doesn’t have to be wasted. Save as much of it as you can and turn it into cake pops. Dip the pops in some melted compound or tempered chocolate and decorate with sprinkles or crushed nuts.

Hope this helps and good luck ?
