Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Stand up tire cake
I need help in the worst way! I have a couple who wants a muddy tire stand up cake as their grooms cake. It looks like a real tire, standing up as if it is on a car and it is standing on top of a flat cake, say a 9 X 13 cake. Problem is, i am pretty new to doing cakes ( just a little over a year) and i am desperately trying to find a way to do it. I think that you could do all RKT’s to shape the “tire”, but i am scared to death that the weight of the fondant will make it “melt” into the flat cake its standing on (the cake is due in June). I also thought that make i could use maybe like a dummy cut in half for the bottom of the tire and then stack cakes in top of the dummy to shape the tire. HELP!!!! I cant find a how to anywhere on the internet and no one seems to have a good idea how to do it– Thanks in advance!

Hi foreveradame
There are a few tutorials online, here is one of them http://batemansbakes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/how-to-make-tyre-cake.html Just goolge ‘how to make a tyre cake’ and you’ll see the others. Paul’s tractor tutorial
http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/tractor-cake is a brilliant guide for making tyre tread. Hope this helps.
Thank you 🙂
