standing figures

Hi all, I have to make a standing rugby player wearing shorts. Does anyone know how I go about making it? I know how to make a standing figure in trousers but doing one in shorts is baffling me. Thanks

Hi. Start with the boots. Then make a sausage of white for the socks and cut two small sausages .. Sick these onto the boots. Then do the same with flesh colour for the flesh that you see above the socks. Next take a rectangle and shape into shorts and attach. Hope that all makes sense!

Or ….. make your standing figure as you would normally but instead of using coloured paste for the legs use flesh. Dress the top of the legs with strips of fondant/gumpaste to make the shorts. Make socks in a similar way, add shoes and cocktail or lolly sticks in the bottom of the shoes going up into the legs so the figure can be supported standing either on a dummy or a thick stiff piece of foam. Do the same for the arms, make them in flesh, add short sleeves and attach to the jersey/torso. If you want your figure to have a stance it may be necessary to use 20 gauge wire in the arms and legs to shape them. Hope this makes sense too!

Thank you both of you, you’ve been a big help. Think I’m gonna have a go at making it in clay 🙂 x
