supporting cake

Hi I’m new to cake making. I am making a christening cake fruit 10inch and sponge top 8inch . Do I need to still support it ?

I don’t usually dowel a base fruit cake if the one above is a light sponge. Rich fruit cakes which have matured for a couple of months are very dense and well able to support a sponge. If you have a light fruit cake or one which is freshly baked I would suggest to take the extra precaution and dowel. Hope this helps.
