Tappit Cutters Help!

Hi, I regularly use clikstix and find these relatively easy to use, I have recently got some tappit cutters and I am struggling to get the letters out without them tearing or going into a funny shape. I am using flower/modelling paste for the letters. Any suggestions??

Hi hecakes

Have a look here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/cutters there’s a link to go to for a tutorial. I use tappitts all the time and like you used to have problems. Secret is roll the paste out really thin, cut, then flick onto the work surface sharply. If the letter/number still doesn’t come out use the scriber tool or a pin to winkle it out.
Tutorial in the link is fantastic, hope you find it useful. x

They should definitely be called whack-its not tappits!

Ha ha! They are my nemesis at the moment. I will not be beaten! I have watched the tutorial and its different to the way I have been doing it so ill give it a try and hope it works. Thanks for the advice.

I had this same problem when I first started to use them. I add Tylo powder or use flower paste, roll out very thin, dust the tappit letter well with corn flour/icing sugar, let the paste dry for a minute or so, then cut it out, leave another minute or so then tap out. I find that as the paste dries out it’s easier for the letters to come out. Hope this helps.

Inevitably mine lands on the floor!

Lol, mine used to fly all over my kitchen! But I recently watched the graduation cake tutorial as I was asked to make a book, and followed Paul’s method for releasing the letters shown there (over the handle of his knife) and the difference was amazing. Every letter came out easily, and not only that they all landed tidily on my board! So I’d recommend watching that then having a go.x

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I managed to make some successfully (I think!) wasn’t the quickest thing to do but I’ll keep trying the different ways you have all suggested!
