toffee cake sinking

made Catherine’s toffee cake, it sank in the middle which was a disappointment, but it tasted great and the family enjoyed it, although I will need to do another one for the wedding cake Im doing. Any advice to avoid dipping:)

Hi winnie

I haven’t got round to baking that recipe but I see there are some very positive comments for it. I can’t say why it didn’t quite work for you. Please could you say which type of oven and temp you baked at. It’s possible the temp was too low and cake didn’t bake through which caused the sinking.

I had the same problem with Fiona Cairn’s toffee cake recipe and still can’t fathom why!

I have a gas oven and baked it at 150 degrees, although I usually bake my cakes at 160 but the recipe did say 150, maybe I should have done it at 160. Thanks

Hi winnie

Catharine’s given temp is 135c which I take to be a fan oven. In a non fan electric oven that would translate as 155c. In a gas oven would that be gas mark 1? Hope your next bake turns out better, feed back would be great!
