It would also be very useful to download a template for the type of trainer you wish to make. I’ve googled Nike trainer template and found some good results.

I’ve found searching online for the make/model you are making and printing off as many different views of it as you can. Plus if you are making it to scale, re-scale each view to the size you need so you can compare it as you carve it.
Another tip is when carving to ensure you allow for the extra width/height your ganache/sugarpaste will add, therefore avoiding your end cake being wider/taller than it should be.
