Transporting Cakes

Hi guys,

Well made my giraffe cake and trasported it to its destination and that had to be the most stressful part of the whole cake process.

Just wondered if anyone had any top tips for packaging cakes and ensuring their safe delivery.

Thanks
Siobhan

Hi Siobhan

If you search ‘transporting cakes’ there are a couple of answers which you might find useful, one answer is from Paul, although they mainly pertain to wedding cakes. I’ve transported tall single cakes successfully by sticking strips of card to the sides of the box to make the box taller so the lid can be closed. Hope this is making sense! I used to transport smaller cakes on the front seat with the seat belt around the box, however, I would never recommend this for larger ones because the seat dips and the cake can shift and get damaged. The boot of the car is the safest way. Keep the box on a very flat surface and put padding around it to keep it from sliding around, drive slowly, no sudden breaking and PRAY like mad!! There are heavy duty boxes available online, they’re expensive so you’d have to either add the price into your costings if the customer wants to retain the box or just use it for the delivery. Here is a link for heavy duty boxes http://www.windsorcakecraft.co.uk/heavy_duty_and_stacked_cake_boxes.html. Hope this helps.

Hi I tried to watch transporting cakes video, and when I submitted my question I was directed to this page saying this question had been asked previously. However the above answer does not answer my question of how do I access transporting cake video? When I went to the tutorial David Brice gave a very well delivered presentation but it was not on transporting cakes.
