Turntable for decorating.

Hi does anyone have any suggestions for a turntable for decorating. I know you would probably eventually need a couple of different ones for different jobs however what is a decent one to get going? Should I go for one that has a tilt? What size? I would like to get a decent one that lasts so don’t mind the investment. Many thanks.

Hi UltraViolet

I have the PME tilt and turn, it marvellous for the types and sizes of cakes I make. The tilt and turn feature makes it easy for intricate piping work. and it’s non slip. I do have my eye on the stainless steel type, not sure whether it tilts. I think if you’re baking cakes larger than 12″ the PME may not be suitable, I haven’t used mine for anything larger. I also have a lazy susan, great when you have to work at eye level. Paul has the Ikea type lazy susan, he manage to do most things with it but then he’s an expert!
This is mine:

There are many more to look at, although I think most have the same functions, the difference being mainly in the aesthetics.

Thank you madeitwithlove.

Yes I spotted Pauls lazy susan! I am currently using a plastic round cake box anything would be a big upgrade for me!

My shortlist was PME and Wilton and there is a big difference in price. I recently ordered a different one online for £15 and it was VERY wonky and light weight all round so returned it.

I’m not currently going above 12″ so don’t need anything too specialist right now just a good all rounder. Never used a tilt so don’t know if I really needed it but happy to try. Looks like it could help with some decoration.

Looks wise I’d rather functionality over aesthetics although both are pleasing to the eye.

The tilt and turn is really useful so that is a big consideration. The PME was recommended to me years ago by my then sugarcraft tutor. I used to do a lot of royal icing piping work so the tilt and turn was ideal. I’ve stopped piping work now because of my sight. I don’t recommend the height of the PME when icing a cake. It’s a bit tall and the icing can stretch and tear. If you use it for icing try and keep the paste short so it doesn’t drag down. G’d luck with your search.
