Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Using buttercream and ganache together
I am new to cake decorating and after making some really impressive cakes from the course I want to try the Teddy Bear cake. When I made the handbag cake, my family tasted the sponge and all said that by using the ganache in the middle and covering of the cake before icing, made it far too rich. I understand that ganache gives a much better finish when covering but was thinking, could I fill with buttercream then use the ganache to cover the cake or will this just taste wierd?

Hi Julesmakescakes
Lots of people fill with buttercream and cover with ganache, not every one likes ganache filling so this is a good compromise. You can fill your cakes with anything you like, it doesn’t have to be ganache. x
Thanks for your advise
