Hi Bev

I have just baked a 12×9 cake and used a 10”sq recipe. The cake is between a 10”/11” sq to be safe use an 11” recipe. Another way to do it is to fill the tin with water and pour it into a square tin and see which one is the best.

I also measure pints of water into the tin and for every pint I do a 55g measure e.g 6 pint tin = 330g sugar etc.
I normally add an extra measure to my calculations just to make sure. This is a good way to do novelty tins.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bev0_0

It would be just as easy to bake a 12″ square and cut off the extra three inches to make it into a 12 x 9, use the cut off to make cake pops. What size tin are you taking the recipe from?

Thanks MIWL i knew you would have the solution,
I was using a 10″ round recipe but i think i have got it all sorted now.
The things you do for your Kids friends at short notice.

Thanks for your answer though much appreciated.
