Wiring lily petals

Help…….I’m really struggling with Lily petals. It’s not the wiring, it’s the shaping. Every time i try to bend the wire to curve the leaf it ends up poking through the fondant. I’ve tries different gauges of wire, different thicknesses of fondant but nothing seems to work. After attempting about 10 petals this morning I’ve given up in a huff!!! Any advice great fully received.!

Hi Ali hancock24

To make strong wired petals you need to use either flower paste or gum paste. Straight fondant is not really strong enough, it crumbles. If you are using gumpaste and it’s still not working out for you the problem may be the weather.
If the weather has been hot and humid the petals will take longer to dry. Let them sit for a couple of days just to make sure that they are completely dry. I had a similar problem with the peony flower petals mainly because I was rolling out too thin. I made them slightly thicker at the vein part where the wire is inserted, let them dry for two days and haven’t had a problem since.
