Yacht Cake

Hi all – I’m going to be making a replica cake of my dad’s yacht for his birthday and was wondering what suggestions you all had for making the guardrail. I’ve looked online for photos and a lot appear to be using what I assume is florist wire, but then I would have to use a posey pick for each point that enters the cake and I’m concerned that will look messy. Any suggestions, especially edible ones?

Also what recommendations to you have for the sails? I know a lot use rice paper, but do you think I could make them out of flower paste?

Thanks!

You could use thick spaghetti and paint it with silver

You could try making the rail posts with fondant and drying so that they will stay upright once put into the yacht- you could then use dental tape or fine string to make the guardrail –
For the sails you could make them with flower paste or fondant with tylose added then dry to shape in a bowl. The rice paper ones look goog if they have been painted or airbrushed- check out Pauls P.ship cake.

hope these ideas help
