When I am making a sculpted cake, how do I know how much cake to bake initially and then after carving how do I calculate how many servings I have left? I usually make a template, blow up to size and decide the size and amount of cakes to bake, but after carving and sculpting cake away, I don’t know how many servings I have left.Thanks!

I tend to use a portion guide when deciding the size cake I need. If I’m carving I measure the completed cake to work out the portions from the guide. Most people I bake for ask for a slicing cake as well because they like giving bigger portions. Perhaps other members will share how they calculate their portions from carved cakes.
