Football

I have been asked to make a football pitch cake with a 3d footballer as a topper. Was thinking of trying to do a model (don’t find people easy but will have a go) either holding or with a foot on a football. The football would probably be approx 1″ diameter. Has anyone got suggestions of how to make a football. Tried looking on the internet but got a bit confused with hexagons and pentagons!

You might find this link helpful. I haven’t attempted a football pattern yet but you can see the scanned template of the hexagon and pentagon on this link. Hope it helps.

Thank you . I can print this off scan and reduce in size then work how to put the pieces together. The cake is for a 7 year old football fanatic. Bit worried about doing a model I’m man utd colours. Really struggling to find any tutorials. Will have a look through Paul’s courses to see if there’s something I can adapt. Really wanted a standing figure with one foot on the football.

Have a look at Paul’s golfer in this tutorial, you might be able to adapt it for what you want.

Hi jb 1958

If you google football player cake topper you’ll see lots of images to draw inspiration from. If the model doesn’t have to be an edible one there are many inexpensive clay dough ones available. It could be kept by the child as his birthday memento. Also available in Man U colours. Just another idea to toy with.
