Dowelling fruit cake

Just covered the 12 inch round fruit cake with the fondant. Let the marzipan dry for 3 days. As it’s going to be my first wedding cake, I am dowelling the fruit cake. But how soon do I need to do the dowels, obviously the fondant is very soft at the moment.

Hi Hairnaround

The dowelling can be done straight away. Placing dowels into icing which becomes too dry can cause cracks.
