Hi Paul and the team.
There is a shop near me that sells beautifully designed cream cakes. I have my eye on a cream cake decorated with fresh strawberries and kiwi. I would however love to do it myself! I am a beginner and I have only recently subscribed to your website. The idea of Q&A is great, so I thought I would take the opportunity to ask you this question. The shop is called Cake Box in Leeds and it is a vegetarian shop. The cake I would like for my birthday is £27 to buy from the shop. I have had a try of one of there cakes at work when a friend bought one for one of my colleagues birthdays.

Hi Michelle

There is absolutely no reason why you can not make a lovely birthday cream cake for yourself. Were you thinking of using fresh cream of a meringue type buttercream? Either would be lovely. However, you would need to keep a fresh cream cake refrigerated because it is fresh dairy. Are you thinking of making an eggless recipe of just a normal sponge?
