Dairy Free Buttercream substitute

Can I add dairy free chocolate to dairyfree spread made “buttercream” to help with solidity for covering in fondant?
Any idea on ratios? I need to fill and cover a 9″ round cake

Hi sarahtitch77

Most people use the same ratios of chocolate and icing sugar and slightly less dairyfree spread to make a more crusting buttercream. I think you would need to experiment with the quantities by adjusting the spread by substituting some of it with trex or another hard vegetable fat which stays stable at room temperature. Try also fudge frosting which sets hard because it is an easy cooked icing. Take a peek at the vegan version here:

I recommend making trial quanitites for suitability.
