Hi
I’m looking for help to make the above cake please.

All my searches throw up hamster birthday cakes for real hamsters! : ) As this cake is for my grandaughter, Im looking for a cake that a hiuman can eat! Any ideas would be very helpful please.

There are a few options on CakeFlix that could be adapted to make the hamster birthday cake.

Paul’s Highland Cow sitting on top of the cake is an easy option. Just cover the cake with grey sugarpaste and texturise to create the hamster fur effect…

You could use the style of face and body on the wafer paper hedgehog tutorial…

Or perhaps something 2D where its only the hamster’s face that’s showing…

David has already answered with some excellent guides. I’ve found a tutorial on tik tok which I tried to link for you. However, the actual tutorial doesn’t come up, it is visible in google search to open but not when linked here. The tutorial is by Ping’s cake design if you’d like to view it.
Ben Cullen also has a small tutorial also on tik tok and also a lady named Lauren.
I googled hamster shaped cakes which might help your search.

Another idea, might to be view some hampster topper tutorials. The simpler ones can often be good guides for making full cakes.

Thanks both very much indeed for you helpful suggestions. I like the shape of the hedgehog cake as it’d be a really good shape for a hamster cake. My grandaughter was given a baby hamster as an early birthday gift recently, hence the hamster birthday cake.

Iv’e had a look at Ben Cullen’s hamster cake and would like to do one like his. It looks like a real hamster and is a very pale sand colour. But I’m just not sure how to get the overall shape.

Any help would be great thanks very much.

Ben Cullen’s little hamster I think, is formed from a round cake, cut in half. One half stood up on the cut side to form the hamster’ a back, and the other half carved to form the face, which is inserted into the body part with a skewer or dowel. It doesn’t really show the process of actually building the hamster. There would be a certain amount of carving to do to perfect the shape before covering it.

The easiest guide, which shows how to build a complete hamster is Ping’s cake designs which is also on tik tok. It’s a quick video but still easy to follow. I’ll set the link and cross fingers it opens here for you. If it doesn’t, I shall have to remove it but you can see it by searching for it google

Thanks very much indeed for your help. The video you included looks really good. The hamster cake image I saw last night is entitled Adorable 3D hamster cake and was posted 3 yrs ago. The details are 1574×2100 jpeg if that’s any help. It looks very lifelike and is coloured a pale sand colour and has icing , hair, piped all over other that is’t ears and eyes.
